 At one time, the whole sky, in every direction had them. When it all started, the sky was totally clear, with no clouds. Approx. 45 minutes after it started, the whole sky was clouded over, with strange shaped clouds. I also suffered breathing difficulty

Two lines, parallel, East to West and the other West to East

On the night of 9-12-08 at approximately 8:45pm I was standing in the backyard in Owasso, Oklahoma watching the first waves of clouds roll in from the gust front of hurricane Ike. Ike was scheduled to make landfall on the Texas coastline the next morning.

The moon was fairly bright and what caught my eye at first was a nice halo around the moon with the clouds passing in front, illuminating through them. I stood there for a few minutes before seeing what appeared to be a passenger jet traveling East at maybe 10,000-15,000 feet; low enough to make out the navigation and strobe lights. I noticed a distinct contrail coming off the back that stretched as far back as I could see to the west.

Just a few minutes later I witnessed another jet heading West at about the same altitude. This one had the exact same contrail coming off the tail. This particular jet was a little further to the South and was running parallel to the first one.

I noticed the contrails didn’t dissipate very quickly at all. In fact I could make out the parallel lines after they passed by one another.

 I typically step outside often to stargaze from this location at different times at night. I rarely see contrails coming off the jets that pass over. If I do, they dissipate quickly. These did not look like normal contrails.

My theory is these were military aircraft laying contrails in front of Ike to help “seed” the atmosphere for the landfall of the storm. The next morning, heavy rains and wind started in Oklahoma just as Ike was making landfall on the coast. What shocked me were the downpours and surface winds that occurred here in Oklahoma. The center of the storm eventually turned East and missed Tulsa and Owasso for the most part.
